My Life and career

emigrated to the USA in 1982. to Maryland, USAI Going into a brand new high school was challenging to say the least. I went to the University of Maryland for undergrad studies. I stayed in the Mayland system. I attended med school at UMAB.

After residency, I did some research on olfaction; From 1999-2005 I was at Emory Healthcare…. I built a practice focused on sinus disease, olfaction (sense of smell). The highlight of my tenure there was taking care of kids and young adults with Cystic Fibrosis—they truly educated me on the importance of personal strength and how they managed a severe chronic illness. Little did I know, I’d be putting it to use in the future

l also got my MBA degree.  I didn’t want to be the proverbial “accountant with stripes” so I elected to take a sabbatical of sorts and joined a healthcare intelligence firm called Sg2. In addition to generation white papers about health technology, and healthcare consulting.

After spending 2 years at Sg2, I joined the ENT faculty at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. While there I did research with the scientists and researchers at TDI, and with a group on Shared Decision Making; I used this concept as the mission for my company-GiriMD, LLC.  I was also deeply involved in patient safety, both surgical and institutional. I was also deeply involved with institutional process improvement-I got further training and got blackbelt certified.

Life was stable-I was happy with both the clinical and administrative progress I had made; Unfortunately, life had other plans for my future.

In 2014, I was diagnosed with a condition called spino-cerebellar ataxia (SCA-1)  in 2014. I gave up surgery immediately for patient safety.
